Company History
Origin
1911
Gustav Otto, the son of the inventor of the engine factory „Otto-Motore“ founds in Munich the aircraft factory “Gustav Otto Flugmaschinenwerke”. On March 7, 1916, this company is integrated into the Bavarian aircraft factory “Bayerische Flugzeugwerke”. This is considered to be the birth of the later Bavarian Engine Company “Bayerische Motorenwerke” (BMW).
1918
Otto starts a new company in Munich and develops a bicycle with auxiliary engine under the name "Flottweg". In the twenties, motor bicycles were produced and sold, also under the name "Flottweg".
Foundation
1932
Dr. Georg Bruckmayer acquires the rights of the protected name “Flottweg” and founds the engine factory “Flottweg-Motoren-Werke”.
1933
The engine factory “Flottweg-Motoren-Werke” starts manufacturing and distributing motorbikes and components for aircraft engines.
Development
1943
Relocation to Vilsbiburg, (60 miles Northeast of Munich).
1946
Development of special tools for printing press equipment (manufactured and sold until 1984).
1956
First sale of a solid bowl decanter centrifuge, model Z 1, to BASF
1964
Development of the first high-speed decanter centrifuge
1966
Development and test of the variable impeller disc in a decanter (patented).
1971
First three-phase decanter tests for olive oil performed in Spain.
1972
Awarded license to Japan for decanter centrifuge manufacturing.
1976
Manufacturing of the newly developed belt press
1978
Awarded license to Australia for belt press manufacturing.
1983
Development of a new type of belt press for the fruit juice industry.
1984
Acquisition of Flottweg by Bird Machine, Inc., USA
1988
Krauss-Maffei Munich becomes major shareholder (90%) of Flottweg.
1989
Takeover of the Krauss-Maffei product line of “decanter centrifuges” by Flottweg (license agreement). Flottweg starts its own sales and service offices in France and Russia.
1990 Flottweg starts its own sales and service offices in the United States, England and the Peoples Republic of China.
1991
Presentation of the biggest newly developed high-performance decanter Z92-4, mainly for the environmental market; Flottweg opens a sales and service office in Dusseldorf, Germany.
1992
Presentation and sale of the first front-end system, an innovative process with a Flottweg TRICANTER® in the wheat starch industry (better product ecology and better economics).
1993
Successful test of the newly developed SEDICANTER®, a decanter centrifuge specifically designed to separate finer particles from suspensions not normally efficiently separated in standard decanter centrifuges. Flottweg opens a sales and service center in Leipzig, Germany.
1994
First Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Certification on ISO 9001
1995
Successful test of the newly developed SORTICANTER®, a three phase centrifuge for the separation of two solids and one liquid e.g. for recycling plastic waste
1997
Received 17 million DM order from Hamburg Wastewater Treatment Plant after successful tests against five competitors.
1998
Takeover of Veronesi Spa Bologna (production of disk stack centrifuges) Development and production of its own planetary gear “Simp-Drive®”, which allows for the most power efficient variable drive.
1999 Flottweg founds its own subsidiary in Shanghai and builds offices and an own workshop
2002
The Ownership of Flottweg changes. 60% is owned by the Flottweg Management and 40% by Invest AG, a subsidiary of the Austrian Bank Raiffeisen Landesbank.
2004
Flottweg takes over the development and the production of separators (disc stack centrifuges) from Veronesi. Veronesi becomes the sales and service center for Flottweg in Italy.
2005
Flottweg proceeds with the expansion of its product facilities. In December, the first section of the assembly hall expansion is completed.
2006
Flottweg Management now holds all shares of the private limited and limited partnership company on shares Flottweg GmbH & Co. KGaA. Flottweg constructs a new office building for reception and sales.
2007
The expansion of the second section of the product facilities is completed. From now on, Flottweg is a shareholders´company operating under the name "Flottweg AG". However, the shares are not listed on the stock-exchange.
2008
On January, 1, 2008, Flottweg Separation Technology Inc., a 100% subsidiary of Flottweg AG, Vilsbiburg, Germany starts its business in Kentucky.
The inauguration ceremony took place on January, 18, 2008 together with representatives of the local authorities as well as the board of directors and the employees of the company. Flottweg Separation Technology Inc. was already founded in 2007, the offices and the workshop were completed at the end of 2007. The new company will be responsible for sales and service for Flottweg products in North America.
