At this point, the complete automation of the separator is a key feature of the system. “Our separator skid is fully automated, so we have automatic throughput control at the inlet - depending on the infeed turbidity,” says the beer expert. “If the infeed turbidity is high, you can reduce the throughput.”  This flexibility enables brewers to produce different types of beer in a targeted manner. For example, for wheat beer, a type of beer with a desired turbidity, the bowl speed is reduced. At the same time, the separator can compensate for yeast fluctuations: The brewer only has to specify the turbidity value of the finished beer - the rest happens fully automatically.

Another advantage of the system is the ability to program and save different recipes in the machine. “The machine can program ten recipes, which makes life much easier for the operator,” continues Benoît. At the start of the working day, the brewer can select the appropriate recipe and finish the day with cleaning the machine after brewing. All recipes can be reused at any time and, if necessary, optimized and adapted in a variety of ways with just a few clicks. This was also the experience of the Little Atlantique brewery in France. In 2021, they decided to purchase a Flottweg Separator, which was put into operation in 2022 and has been in daily use ever since. That saves us time and money.”
