Flottweg’s Nozzle Separator Impresses: New Product Awarded German Innovation Award

With the German Innovation Award, the German Design Council is once again recognizing companies that stand out in exceptional ways with new, forward-looking technologies, processes, or services. The winners in 2023 include Flottweg, a separation technology specialist that was awarded a “Special Mention” in the “Excellence in Business to Business” category for its nozzle separator FDS2000. The nozzle separator and its wide range of innovative features scored points with the jury of independent experts from technology, digitalization, science, and institutions. Flottweg’s nozzle separator beat out 650 submissions from 22 countries and was awarded the distinction “Special Mention” for the well-conceived aspects, original approaches, and savvy detailed solutions.

Flottweg is delighted to receive the German Innovation Award: "The work of our interdisciplinary project team from Development, Process Engineering, and Production has paid off—with the nozzle separator, we've won over not only customers but now also an expert jury. This means a lot to us," explains Dr. Kersten Link, Speaker of the Board of Directors. In addition to the German Innovation Award, Flottweg also received the Innovator of the Year award for the nozzle separator.

 

Customer Focus Reimagined

The concept of a nozzle separator was viewed by many experts to be fully exhausted, and that’s when a lot of customers reached out to Flottweg. The separation technology specialist acknowledged the customers’ concerns and fundamentally questioned the existing design principles. The aim of the development process was to rethink the nozzle separator from scratch to meet customer requirements, while developing a sustainable, high-performance, and highly efficient separation unit. After all, as a key technology used in the food and biotechnology industry, having low operating and maintenance costs, low resource consumption, and of course an optimal separation result are very important.

 

"The heart of the nozzle separator is the bowl, which, thanks to its highly innovative design, combines a multitude of benefits. This is also crucial for energy savings and efficiency," explains Senior Product Manager Matthias Gaube, who played a key role in the development of the nozzle separator. “In addition to our customers' requirements, it was our expertise from over 50 years of experience in the field of separation technology that significantly influenced the design of the FDS2000.”
