Engineered For Your Success

Sustainability and
Responsibility at Flottweg

Success is ... living sustainability

We have anchored sustainability in our corporate strategy. Accordingly, we are dedicated to combining long-term economic success with environmental and social progress based on innovative technologies, resource-saving processes and responsible business decisions, with the goal of making a positive contribution to a decarbonized world.

This guiding principle accompanies us through the various facets and projects associated with sustainability: from the determination of the CO₂ footprint to the development of a dedicated sustainability strategy, through to a sustainability report and the long-term goal of climate neutrality.

Moreover, this corporate responsibility also finds reflection in our daily work. After all, the construction of machines in the field of separation technology is closely linked to efficiency and the sustainable use of resources. The foremost premise of our products is therefore to combine the highest level of quality with the highest level of cost-effectiveness.

We are working with determination to make our product range of decanters, separators and belt presses even more economical and environmentally friendly in the future with the goal of producing our products in a resource-efficient way and making our systems even more efficient for our customers based on innovations.

Environmental responsibility

At Flottweg, we take a holistic approach to sustainably reducing our energy consumption and emissions.

To reduce our need for energy and help create a healthy working environment, we rely on workplace and facility planning by our specialist team. This results in efficient building designs, targeted renovations and optimized logistics structures.

Our infrastructure is also subject to continuous improvements. An example is the optimization of our use of electricity, where we reduce our energy consumption through intelligent control systems and load management.

We also aim to achieve maximum efficiency in our production processes: By establishing a monitoring system for our use of water, we create transparency regarding energy flows and identify potential savings. In addition, we invest exclusively in highly energy-efficient production machinery to minimize our energy consumption over the long term.

We also consistently promote the reduction of CO₂ emissions by switching over to renewable energy. This includes the conversion of our vehicle fleet to e-mobility, the installation of further photovoltaic systems and the establishment of a comprehensive monitoring system. This is how we make our use of renewable energy and the savings achieved transparently.

As the basis for all these measures, Flottweg is certified according to DIN ISO 50001 for energy management – a testament to our systematic and sustainable approach.

The respectful use of raw materials is a matter of course for Flottweg. Our goal is to conserve resources and avoid waste as much as possible. Many things in everyday working life and production need to be considered to ensure sustainable recycling processes and effective waste management. With our new project for waste management and the circular economy, we take a holistic approach: we not only want to reduce waste, but also to improve its quality and ensure its correct separation.

The application of a well-thought-out recycling process makes valuable raw materials usable again and returns them to the economic cycle. At the same time, we continuously review our waste disposal processes and seek out innovative solutions to recycle waste even more sustainably and efficiently.

As the basis for these measures, Flottweg is certified according to DIN ISO 14001 (environmental management) and DIN ISO 9001 (quality management) – a testament to our systematic and quality-oriented approach.

For Flottweg, sustainability not only means designing our own processes efficiently, but also focusing on the entire value chain. We aim to offer our customers solutions which enable the maximum earnings with minimal use of resources. That is why we are continuously developing our decanters, separators and belt presses further to make them even more economical and environmentally friendly.

An important lever in achieving this is data acquisition and analysis. By expanding the use of machine learning applications and tracking the status of the consumption of resources by our customers, we create the basis for targeted improvements. We want to collect relevant data to design processes efficiently from the outset and during the final acceptance phase for the machines.

We also provide our commissioning teams with international training so that our customers worldwide can benefit from optimally adjusted processes and avoid the unnecessary waste of resources. In addition, we determine both the corporate carbon footprint (CCF) and the product carbon footprint (PCF) to create transparency and make further potential savings visible.

With these measures, we ensure that our customers not only receive high-performance systems but can also make a decisive contribution to the conservation of resources and climate protection – in line with our guiding principle: Engineered For Your Success.

We develop our products so that they are durable and modular and make a positive contribution to the conservation of resources. Our decanters, separators and belt presses are characterized by their long service life – and thanks to our strong range of services, they can be used for much longer with regular maintenance, repairs and retrofits. The considerable modularity of our machines allows the replacement or repair of individual components, avoiding the need to replace complete systems.

To further increase our compatibility with the circular economy, we are working on projects to optimize the repair process, on an improved end-of-life concept for the Flottweg machines, and on take-back options that ensure sustainable recycling.

Our goal: To maximize the life cycle of our products and conserve resources for a future in which efficiency and sustainability go hand in hand.

The upstream supply chain also plays a crucial role in our holistic approach to sustainability. We take responsibility for the environmental impact of our procurement decisions. In addition to our specially formulated supplier code, we are also developing our own sustainability strategy for supply chain management. This strategy provides the basis for setting concrete targets and measures to reduce environmental impacts within the supply chain.

With this step, we not only contribute to the conservation of resources and reducing our suppliers’ emissions but we also support our long-term goal of climate neutrality along the entire value chain.

Social responsibility

Flottweg pursues the goal of offering all its employees a healthy, safe and pleasant working environment. In addition to ergonomically designed workstations, occupational safety is our top priority. A free advice service is also available to assist employees with personal, professional or health-related concerns. As an employer, we are dedicated to ensuring fair conditions and putting people first. Our corporate culture is based on appreciation, trust and respectful relationships. All measures are bundled in the standard for occupational safety DIN ISO 45001, according to which Flottweg is certified.

The continuous development and further training of our employees is a key part of our philosophy – after all, only together with a strong, competent team, can we act responsibly in the long term and meet the personal aspirations of our employees.

This is achieved with our in-house training academy. It offers both in-person training for employees and technical training for customers and complements this offer with the digital learning and training platform known as the Flottweg Campus.

Flottweg focuses on ensuring fairness and equal opportunities. We nurture a corporate culture in which diversity is valued, and different perspectives are considered a strength. For us, inclusion means offering all employees a respectful and appreciative working environment – regardless of their origin, gender, age or individual abilities. In addition, we are dedicated to ensuring fair and transparent remuneration to ensure equal pay and consistently reject discrimination.

Our employees are at the heart of Flottweg – we therefore want to create a working environment that offers space for ideas, personal development and joint growth. We support a healthy work-life balance with flexible working time models that allow our employees to work up to 40 % of their working hours remotely. Attractive remuneration, extensive benefits and shared experiences strengthen our team spirit and are intended to make Flottweg an employer where performance and quality of life complement each other.

As a family business, Flottweg takes responsibility for the region where it operates. We support sports clubs – from amateur to professional sports – and support charitable social institutions with annual donations. Our economic strength in Vilsbiburg and our social initiatives also make an important contribution to the sustainable development of our home region.

Responsible corporate governance

Integrity provides the basis of our actions. At Flottweg, we ensure that all our business activities are conducted in accordance with our guidelines and the Supplier Code. These standards form the basis for responsible conduct in all areas along our value chain.

Our compliance principles encompass key issues such as ethics and fair working conditions, data protection and information security, avoidance of conflicts of interest, the prevention of corruption and measures to stop money laundering. To ensure transparency and security, we operate a whistleblower system with which infringements can be reported confidentially.

We are developing a comprehensive training concept for our employees to raise awareness surrounding compliance issues and to ensure that our values are reflected in our daily work.

Detailed information on this topic can be found on our Compliance and Corporate Governance page.

At Flottweg, respect for human rights is an essential element of good corporate governance.

The basis for this is our supplier code, which sets out clear requirements on issues such as fair working conditions, the prohibition of children and forced labor, occupational safety and equal treatment. All our suppliers are committed to meeting these standards.

Our sustainability strategy for supply chain management plays a central role in further strengthening the implementation of these requirements. Because of this strategy, we will define specific goals and measures to systematically ensure respect for human rights in the supply chain.

Our aim in doing this is to ensure responsible procurement that not only guarantees environmental but also social sustainability – to ensure a fair and transparent value chain.

Transparency is a key part of our sustainability approach. We are working hard to be able to issue detailed reports on our sustainability efforts in the future. Officially, we will be required to report under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the 2027 financial year – and therefore publish a CSRD-compliant report for the first time in 2028. Our goal is to prepare for this in good time and to create the necessary structures.

Important foundations for this are: the double materiality analysis, the determination of our corporate carbon footprint (CCF) and the calculation of the product carbon footprint (PCF). A key topic for CSRD reporting is data collection, analysis and evaluation, on which we focus to provide valid and transparent information.

We are also developing a comprehensive sustainability strategy, which will set out our long-term goals and measures.

Our steps so far serve to underline our aspiration: Flottweg has been EcoVadis certified since 2023 and has been a member of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) since 2023.
